The 1970s West German pottery boom was not known for its subtlety, yet this design from Scheurich manages a rare balance between mid-century architectural form and striking, unapologetic color. The model 401-28 is instantly recognizable to collectors by its clean, cylindrical silhouette paired with that distinctively sharp, circular ring handle.
The glaze composition here is an absolute classic of the "Fat Lava" era.

The body is wrapped in a thick, deep chocolate-brown high-gloss glaze that provides a heavily contrasting frame for a thick, textured, volcanic band of vibrant fire-engine red. The edges of the red band feature a natural, frothy glaze bleed, a text-book signature of West German kiln-reactive chemistry that saves you the trouble of proving its authenticity.

The base is clearly and crisply stamped with the model designation "401-28" and the mandatory "W. GERMANY" mark of origin. It is in immaculate vintage condition, structurally flawless, and completely free of the chips or hairline fractures that usually plague handled mid-century ceramics.
