Antique Olive Wood Treen Box with White Metal Camel Inlay
Storing keys or pocket items in a mass-produced plastic tray is an excellent way to drain the character out of a hallway table. This antique 19th or early 20th-century treen box corrects that, offering a beautifully figured slab of solid olive wood. This is not a veneer; it is built from solid timber with a dramatic swirl of rich, dark grain lines that pass completely through the wood.
The top left of the lid is mounted with a small, detailed white metal camel silhouette, identifying it as a piece of traditional Holy Land souvenir treen. The interior remains completely unlined, meaning the distinct, pleasantly aromatic scent of the old olive wood is immediately present when the lid is lifted.
Honest Anatomy:
The box is completely structurally sound and the original inset brass hinges work smoothly, allowing the lid to close perfectly squarely. True to its age and journeys, it carries two notable condition flaws. There is an historic, stable hairline split running vertically down the rear left corner edge of the lid and base, and the underside edge of the bottom panel shows a long, old chip or loss to the wood rim. Both flaws are entirely historic and stable, offering honest workshop wear that saves you the worry of its first mark.
