Antique Joseph Lucas "Silver King of the Road" Bicycle Lamp - Birmingham
£79.95
This exceptional antique bicycle oil lamp is a premium piece of early cycling transportation history. Sourced at the prestigious Ardingly Antiques Fair, this is the highly collectible "Silver King" model produced by the iconic firm Joseph Lucas Ltd in Birmingham, England.
The front of the lamp features the authentic, beautifully preserved oval maker's badge displaying the text: "Jos. Lucas Ltd, Silver King of the Road, Birmingham". This model was highly regarded during the late Victorian and Edwardian cycling boom, widely considered the premier bicycle lighting option of its era.
The item is offered in untested condition and sold strictly as a decorative collector's piece. The lamp is crafted from metal with its original nickel or tin-plated finish. It presents a beautifully aged, authentic patina showing honest signs of historical wear, pitting, and wear to the plating that highlights its genuine age and industrial heritage. There is visible corrosion to the base as shown in the photographs. To preserve its current state, the lamp has been sympathetically cleaned using professional Vulpex liquid soap and carefully coated with museum-grade Renaissance wax. The primary front lens and side glass "jewel" inserts remain intact, and the rear mounting mechanism is present.
An outstanding addition to any collection of militaria, early transport memorabilia, or antique bicycle components.
