Antique Joseph Lucas "Calcia" Carbide Bicycle Lamp - Birmingham
£49.95
This fine antique calcium carbide bicycle lamp is a classic piece of early 20th-century cycling transport history. Sourced at the prestigious Ardingly Antiques Fair, this is the highly sought-after "Calcia" model manufactured by the legendary Joseph Lucas Ltd in Birmingham, England.
The lamp body features clear, authentic stamped details around the chamber reading: "Made by Joseph Lucas, Ltd., Birmingham, England" and "Do Not Fill Carbide Above This Line". The upper housing displays the iconic Lucas "Lion" logo alongside the "Calcia" model name stamp, indicating its high-quality British manufacturing heritage.
The item is offered in untested condition and sold strictly as a decorative collector's piece. Crafted from metal, the original plating has worn smooth over decades of age, resulting in a beautiful, soft, and highly authentic vintage patina. To preserve its historic character, the lamp has been sympathetically cleaned using professional Vulpex liquid soap and sealed with museum-grade Renaissance wax. The large glass front lens and side green jewel lens insert remain intact, and the rear mounting arm is present.
A superb decorative accent or addition to any collection of militaria, automobilia, or early bicycle memorabilia.
