Antique Edwardian Wool Petit Point Framed Textile Art c1900 Georgian Style Courting Scene

An exceptional, authentic late-Victorian / Edwardian wool needlework panel dating precisely to circa 1900. The central design depicts a classic 18th-century Georgian courting scene, masterfully executed in fine, tight petit point stitching to capture the intricate shading of the gentleman’s striped frock coat, breeches, and the lady’s traditional full gown. The expansive cream background is worked in a neat, uniform gros point tent stitch.

The hand-spun wool yarns have aged beautifully over the last century, developing a soft, oxidized palette of muted indigo blue, dusty rose, and warm earth tones that display beautifully under natural light. Housed in its original, heavy, dark-stained solid wood frame that coordinates perfectly with traditional English country house decor.

Professional Conservation Note: The reverse retains its original hand-cut wood backing boards, period hanging hardware, and heavily oxidized, brittle dust-seal paper. To preserve its strict antique integrity and market value, it has been left entirely in its authentic as-found state. There is a minor, stable, characteristic movement (wobble) of the canvas within the rebate where the century-old backing paper has naturally aged and softened. Structurally sound for direct hanging.
