An outstanding mid-century modern West German art pottery statement vase, manufactured by the legendary Scheurich Keramik factory in the 1970s. Standing at a substantial 30cm tall, this robust floor vase features a powerful cylindrical body and a chunky, iconic collared rim. The piece showcases a phenomenal, highly textured dual-zone volcanic glaze, contrasting a dark charcoal-black mottled base with a thick, frothy snow-like cratered drip glaze that reveals brilliant layers of vibrant cobalt blue underneath.
The base features a heavy, dark volcanic glaze application that partially fills the markings, but still faintly displays the signature Scheurich form layout with model number "517-30" alongside "W. GERMANY".
Condition Report:
This vase is in excellent vintage structural condition with no chips, cracks, hairline fractures, or restorations. The dramatic volcanic fat lava glazes remain wonderfully coarse, offering a highly tactile surface with fantastic textural depth and no damage to the delicate cratered edges. A superb collector's example.
