Vintage Repoussé Silver Plate Fruit Bowl with Floral Border
This example prefers to sit flat and ground itself in heavy, unvarnished utility. It relies on a deeply embossed, rococo-style floral and scroll border to make its presence known, turning an ordinary collection of clementines into a rather grand centrepiece.
The underside bears the highly literal, completely unglamorous stamp of "Tableware Silverplate." This is a generic British trade mark from the latter half of the 20th century, produced for everyday households rather than grand estates.
Honest Anatomy:
Having survived a substantial layer of market grime, the bowl has polished up brilliantly. Close inspection reveals a few small patches where the silver plate has worn thin on the high, raised points of the floral embossing, allowing the warm, golden hue of the underlying brass base metal to peek through. Rather than a flaw, this subtle "bleeding" gives the piece a pleasant, broken-in depth. The flat interior well shows fine, honest surface scuffing consistent with decades of fruit or nuts being moved around.
