There is a distinct industrial integrity to items manufactured by Pollards. Primarily known for fitting out high-end department store windows and commercial displays in the mid-twentieth century, their floristry equipment was designed to survive heavy, repetitive handling. They were never intended for delicate domestic eyes, which explains why they resemble a minor medieval defensive hazard.

This is a notably wider, heavier specimen than standard domestic pin frogs, designed to keep ambitious, top-heavy branches exactly where the display director wanted them. The underside carries the crisp, stamped "POLLARDS" maker's mark into the lead base, alongside remnants of an old red oxide primer or protective paint layer that has worn away with decades of immersion in water.

The brass pins show the clear narrative of a long working life; they are slightly snaggly and imperfectly aligned, though they have been systematically straightened to ensure they remain thoroughly functional. The weight is excellent, providing a solid, immovable low-centre-of-gravity ballast. It is completely ready to support a massive arrangement of winter branches or to sit on a heavy desk holding incoming mail.

Anatomy:
• Material: Cast lead base with aged brass pins.
• Dimensions: Approximately 3.1 inches (8 cm) in diameter.
• Weight: Substantial and heavy; built to anchor woody structural stems without tipping.
• Condition: Honestly weathered. Expect a heavily patinated base with patchy remnants of historic red coating, mineral limescale between the pins, and some slightly irregular, snaggly pin spacing. All pins are firm and usable.
