Vintage Ianthe Silver-Plated Round Salver – Ornate Engraved Drinks Gallery Tray
One has to admire the absolute, unyielding commitment of mid-century British hosts to ensuring that even a solitary glass of sherry was presented with architectural significance. This delightful round salver by Ianthe is a splendid example of post-war Birmingham silversmithing, designed to elevate the most casual table service.
The underside features a crisp, circular manufacturer’s stamp clearly declaring its origin: "Ianthe – Made in England – Silver Plated." The face of the tray is a minor triumph of decorative detail, heavily chased and engraved with dense baroque scrolls, floral sprays, and a traditional central cartouche. The rim is finished with an intricately molded, low-profile gadrooned border that lends excellent rigidity to the piece. It is a wonderfully low-slung, substantive object that looks entirely at home serving drinks or acting as an elegant catchall on a mid-century sideboard.
Condition:
Presented in exceptionally bright, clean vintage condition with a beautiful reflective depth. There is a single, very minor spot of historic surface tarnish inside the chasing detail and light localized shelf friction to the underside, which happily saves you the tedious modern worry of leaving its very first blemish. The silver plate remains entirely thick and uniform across the face, free from structural dents, warping, or base-metal bleed.
