Vintage Coca-Cola Enamel Sign – Red Script on White – Professional Conservation
£150.00
Mid-Century Vitreous Enamel Coca-Cola Advertising Sign
For sale is a vitreous enamel (porcelain) Coca-Cola sign, measuring. This is a high-quality vintage piece, not a modern tin reproduction, featuring the classic Spencerian script in a striking format.
Authenticity & Construction:
- Vitreous Enamel: This sign features the heavy glass-on-steel construction characteristic of mid-century advertising.
- Raised Lettering: The red script is fired as a separate layer; you can clearly feel the "step" and depth between the white base and the red lettering.
- Production Markers: The edges of the red script show the desirable "feathering" typical of authentic hand-stenciled enamel.
- Base Metal: The sign is on heavy-gauge "blue steel" with a genuine rusted patina to the edges and mounting holes, consistent with decades of outdoor display.
Conservation Status:
I have professionally stabilized this piece to ensure its longevity:
- Cleaned: Hand-cleaned with Vulpex liquid soap to remove surface grime without damaging the enamel.
- Stabilized: The back and exposed steel edges have been treated with boiled linseed oil to seal and stop further oxidation.
- Protected: The entire sign has been finished with a coat of Renaissance Wax (museum-grade micro-crystalline wax) to provide a moisture barrier and a soft, protective luster.
Condition:
The "fridge white" enamel remains bright with excellent gloss. There is authentic edge-wear and light rusting around the mounting holes which adds to its industrial character. Please see photos for detail on the raised lettering and patina.
Shipping:
Will be packed securely with heavy-duty padding to ensure the enamel does not chip during transit.
