Vintage British Railways Cast Iron Wagon Plate - Swindon 1957

An authentic piece of British industrial railway heritage, this heavy cast iron wagon plate is an excellent addition to any railwayana collection. Sourced at the Sunbury Antiques Market from a trusted, established railway specialist, this plate originates from the historic Swindon Works during the early British Railways era.

The plate features crisp raised lettering and numbering across the face, detailing the wagon registration and construction specifics: B 743314, 13 T, SWINDON 1957, LOT No 2974. The "13 T" indicates its historical operational cargo capacity of 13 tons, a standard for mid-century freight rolling stock.This plate is the first of three distinct variations available.

The front face has been historically repainted in classic railway black with white lettering for display purposes, remaining clean and highly legible. The reverse remains in its authentic, untouched state, boasting a beautifully rich, rusted iron patina and honest pitting that serves as excellent provenance of its decades of trackside service.
