Vintage Beaded Silver Plate Chamberstick with Conical Snuffer

Before the domestic lightbulb made night-time navigation rather mundane, a chamberstick was the standard tool for moving from the sitting room to the bedroom without tripping over the dog. This silver-plated example carries that traditional, deeply practical form, complete with its original conical snuffer resting neatly on the thumbpiece. The wide dish base is finished with a classic beaded border, designed entirely to catch cascading wax before it ruins the furniture.

It is completely unmarked, which points to a mid-20th-century production intended for regular domestic use rather than high-end display. The heft, color, and wear leave little doubt that it is a dependable electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) piece.

Honest Anatomy:
The silver plate is bright and has taken a polish remarkably well. There is minor black pitting nestled inside the central candle well from old wax and historic use. The underside is smooth with light surface scuffing from decades of sitting on various sideboards. It is structurally solid, unbent, and the snuffer fits its perch exactly as it should.

Dimensions:

• Total Width (including handle): 16 cm (approx. 6.3 inches)
• Total Height (to top of snuffer): 10.5 cm (approx. 4.1 inches)
