Antique Kerr & Phillips Glasgow Silver Plated Oval Entree Dish - Gadroon Border (c.1890)

An exceptionally handsome antique Scottish silver-plated (EPNS) oval entree dish manufactured by the specialised wholesale electroplaters Kerr & Phillips of Glasgow, dating to the late Victorian period circa 1890. This heavy-quality serving piece features a beautifully polished, smooth dome cover framed by a traditional and robust gadroon (twisted rope style) border accenting both the base rim and upper lid. It is topped with a highly decorative, heavy scrolling twist-lock handle that easily detaches, allowing the deep lid to be flipped and used as a fully functional secondary open serving platter.

The inner lip is deeply and crisply stamped with the firm's distinctive gothic pseudo-hallmarks: "K&P" inside an oval cartouche followed by a series of four heraldic shield blocks (including a maltese cross and gothic initials) and the hand-etched workshop reference numbers 9267.

Condition Report:
This dish is in very good, bright antique structural condition and retains a magnificent mirror shine across the exterior dome. As a genuine late 19th-century domestic table piece, it shows honest light signs of age, including minor surface cleaning micro-scratches and light scuffing to the interior base of the serving tray from historical handling.There is a minor dent in the base, this is shown in the pictures The silver plating remains remarkably thick and complete, with no major breakthrough, no black pitting, and no bubbling. A beautifully preserved, display-ready example of classic Scottish metalwork.
