Antique John Biggin Sheffield Silver Plated Toast Rack - 4-Slot Gothic Arch Letter Rack (c.1910)

An exceptionally handsome antique English silver-plated (EPNS) 4-slot toast rack manufactured by the prominent Sheffield silversmiths John Biggin Ltd (J B & S). Dating to the late Victorian or Edwardian period, this premium piece features five beautifully formed Gothic cathedral-style arched dividing bars rising from an elegant, pierced open-work base. It is topped with an elongated oval central loop handle and stands securely on four integrated corner bracket feet. While designed for a formal breakfast setting, its robust capacity makes it a spectacular, functional desk organiser for letters, incoming mail, or fine stationery.

The underside of the base frame is deeply and crisply stamped with the firm's classic hallmarks: the "J B & S" maker's initials, their signature trumpet-with-banner heraldic trademark symbol, "EP", and the production reference number 998.

Condition Report:
This rack is in very good antique structural condition and retains a magnificent, high-shine mirror reflection. True to its authentic age and functional history, the piece displays light surface micro-scratches and areas of minor, dark tarnish and cleaning residue nestled deep within the inner base joints (clearly highlighted with the pen in the close-up photographs). The frame is perfectly straight, all solder joints are completely rock-solid, and it sits entirely level.
