Antique Edward & Sons Glasgow Silver Plated Salver - Chippendale Style Drinks Tray (c.1900)

An exceptionally handsome antique Scottish silver-plated (EPNS) round drinks tray manufactured by the highly prestigious silversmiths and luxury retailers Edward & Sons of Glasgow. Dating to the late Victorian or Edwardian era, this substantial salver features a classic shaped Chippendale-style scalloped rim with a heavy molded border framing a smooth, plain mirror-finish center field.
It is a wonderfully tactile piece of Scottish social history, ideal for serving drinks, acting as a small decanter stand, or bringing a curated period look to a modern home bar setup.
The reverse is cleanly stamped with the premium retail provenance mark: "EDWARD & SONS GLASGOW" along with the specific workshop production reference number 6249.
Condition Report:
This tray is in good structural antique condition and possesses a magnificent, unique time-worn character. As an authentic centenary table piece that has seen decades of honest domestic use, the face exhibits heavy localised silver plate breakthrough (bleed-through) on the rim, beautifully highlighting the warm undertones of the base metal underneath. Most notably, the wear includes distinct historical "thumb marks" where the servers gripped the platter over the generations, offering an irreplaceable, honest patina that prop buyers and curated decorators adore. The base shows light surface scuffs and typical cleaning scratches consistent with its age.
Provenance:
Sourced at Sunbury Antiques Market.
