This premium piece features a beautifully shaped, fluid baroque-revival silhouette accented by stylized floral rosettes stamped directly into the elegant end handles. The face of the tray is exceptionally striking, displaying a complex, deeply embossed checkerboard harlequin pattern filled with alternating panels of cream, vivid emerald green, and turquoise blue geometric flower heads, all framed by a wide, vibrant orange-red border band and rich gold leaf detailing. It makes a vibrant, highly collectible statement piece for a festive drinks display, vanity cart, or vintage wall cluster.
The reverse features the classic lightweight, unlacquered natural wood grain common to authentic Tuscan art workshops of this era.
Condition Report:
This tray is in good vintage structural condition with no cracks or splits to the wooden form. True to its age and authentic handmade production method, the surface exhibits a wonderful, time-worn character. There are areas of honest wear and minor scuffing, including visible white gesso plaster show-through along the raised edges, ridges, and handles where the paint and gold gilding have naturally thinned over the decades. Please examine the detailed close-up photographs to fully appreciate its unique period patina.
Provenance:
Sourced at Sunbury Antiques Market.

https://aniceoldthing.com/products/vintage-italian-florentine-shaped-handle-serving-tray-mid-century-gold-gilt-orange-green-harlequin-salver
