This unbranded mid-century kenzan retains a generous coating of aged, pale green enamel or lacquer around its perimeter and lower pins. Whether applied at the factory to protect the metal from direct oxidation, or brushed on by a resourceful florist trying to camouflage the base among the foliage, it gives the piece a distinct, utilitarian charm.

At a substantial 3.1 inches in diameter, this is one of the larger units from our recent auction intake. It is explicitly built to anchor complex arrangements or thick, top-heavy branches that would easily topple lighter glass or ceramic alternatives.
The underside reveals the raw, dull grey of the lead base, featuring a mottled patina and light calcification from historical hard-water exposure. The brass pins are dense, upright, and rigid, a few misaligned. The paint layer shows honest chipping and flaking along the edges, exactly where decades of contact with the sides of stoneware basins have worn it away. It remains entirely robust, completely functional, and ready to anchor another century of seasonal displays.

Anatomy:
• Material: Cast lead base with aged brass pins and historic green lacquer.
• Dimensions: Approximately 3.1 inches (8 cm) in diameter.
• Weight: Significant and low-slung; designed for reliable stability with ambitious arrangements.
• Condition: Honest, seasoned utility wear. The green finish is attractively weathered, chipped, and calcified around the lower pin gaps.
