large-vintage-west-german-floor-vase-scheurich-553-38
Large Vintage West German Floor Vase – Scheurich 553-38

There is a distinct, rhythmic geometry to this substantial Scheurich floor vase that feels entirely grounded in the mid-century continental aesthetic. Molded in the robust, straight-sided 553-38 cylindrical form, the piece acts as a fine canvas for a highly detailed, hand-incised sgraffito design.

A central band of deeply carved, dark espresso-tinted spirals wraps around the belly, flanked by concentric horizontal bands that break through a warm, mottled caramel and amber gloss glaze. Standing at thirty-eight centimetres, it is a dense piece of interior architecture that carries a heavy, exceptionally stable presence. It is exactly the kind of unhurried, functional art object that anchors a modern room without succumbing to the louder, frothy excesses of the later volcanic glazes.

Condition:
Presented in very honest, structural health. Under bright, direct light, there is some very light, localized glaze crazing just below the neck rim, which is entirely characteristic of vintage continental earthenware and happily saves you the tedious concern of its very first domestic blemish. The unglazed base rim shows typical, authentic shelf wear and minor scuffing from decades of resting on hard flooring. Completely free from chips, cracks, or modern restorations.

Dimensions:
• Height: 38 cm
• Maximum Diameter: 17 cm
• Weight: 2.1 kg

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1010/9317/9722/files/IMG_0198_cbcf1475-34da-4f5f-ac55-be6335351cbe.jpg?v=1793026166
