This exceptional late 19th or early 20th-century round salver, produced by the prestigious Sheffield makers Roberts & Belk, is a magnificent example of authentic "bleeding" plate—a specific, weathered aesthetic highly coveted by modern interior designers.

The tray features a beautifully executed "Chippendale" style shaped and molded rim. The central reservoir is delicately engraved with a continuous band of scrolling foliage, stylized lattice work, and floral cartouches. Decades of honest domestic polishing have gently thinned the silver plate along the inner molded channels, allowing the golden, warm base metal to "bleed" through to the surface. It creates a stunning, multi-toned patina that modern reproduction pieces completely fail to capture.
Perfectly sized to host a single crystal decanter and two glasses, it serves as a deeply atmospheric accent piece for a bar cart, a side table drop-zone, or an entryway console.

Condition Report:
In beautifully weathered, structurally sound antique condition. The tray retains a brilliant polish across the chased centre, with extensive, honest plate wear and historic base-metal bleeding localised around the inner rim and moulded borders, fully documented in the detail photography. The surface is entirely clean and stable. The reverse shows typical surface handling scratches and is deeply stamped with the full Roberts & Belk "R&D" corporate pseudo-hallmarks and "Made in England" mark.

Dimensions

• Diameter: Approx 12.2 inches (31 cm)

https://aniceoldthing.com/products/antique-roberts-belk-sheffield-silver-plate-salver-bleeding-copper-drinks-tray
