This stately pedestal fruit bowl—or tazza, if one wishes to be thoroughly civilised—is an exceptional specimen of Art Deco dining architecture.
The underside is deeply stamped with the maker’s London and Sheffield hallmarks, identifying it as Mappin Plate. The bowl features an elegant, wide-rimmed silhouette accented by a finely pierced, vertical slat design that allows the light to track through the silver beautifully. The central basin is adorned with an exquisitely crisp, hand-engraved circular bright-cut frieze of repeating foliate sweeps. Elevated on a robust, stepped pedestal base, it possesses a commanding, low-slung stability that ensures your apples and pears remain precisely where you left them.

Condition:
Presented in outstanding, unpolished vintage structural health. The silver plate remains remarkably thick across the entire piece, showing only minor, honest surface hairline scratches and light localised pitting inside the main basin from decades of accommodating real, slightly acidic orchard fruit. This natural tarnish and tracking save you the tedious burden of maintaining an artificial, modern perfection. Completely free from structural dents, warping, or modern restorations.

Dimensions:
• Diameter: 21.5 cm (approx. 8.5 inches)
• Height: 8 cm (approx. 3.1 inches)

https://aniceoldthing.com/products/antique-mappin-webb-mappin-plate-pedestal-fruit-bowl-art-deco-pierced-tazza
